Here’s a little something I’d like to share with you, I’m a boy hood Man Utd supporter….you know that. But I’m also a big fan of David Beckham……since the days he used to wear jersey no. 24 at Man Utd, yup thats quite far back.
Becks has had many jersey numbers and most of them turned out to be trend setters. He started off wearing no. 24 for a short stint and even played in a more attacking midfield role when he was much younger at Man Utd.
Then Fergie switched him to the right flank and he wore no. 10. Soon after he was wearing the famous no. 7 for both club and country in what proved to be the most sought after number that kids would want to wear for their school football teams………I was one of those kids.
Years later Real Madrid came knocking at the door and Becks moved to spain where he picked up no. 23, why? Well firstly Raul was wearing no. 7 and so he chose the number of his fave basketball player, Micheal Jordon.
The jersey above is the one he wears at LA Galaxy, a move which many people questioned. After all Becks surely can offer his skills at the highest level for at least 2 more years before playing in weaker leagues. None the less Becks decided on a move to LA in a bid to improve the publicity of the MLS league and the interest of the sport in the US.
And now it’s 2009, Becks is 33 and he’s currently playing on loan at AC Milan. What a move to one of the biggest clubs in Europe! Although he will only be at Milan for 2 months, the club is already reaping the rewards of Becks-mania.
Jersey sales are up (I’ve got one….woo hoo!) and with Beckham wanting to prove his worth for a place in the England squad, he’s playing with top form, which has seen him score 2 goals, assist a whole lot more and Milan has moved up to 2nd in the Serie A.
Well I got my Beckham jersey from La Vanita at Peninsula Plaza, I’m so glad the stock is in for the long sleeved ones. Last time round I got the short sleeve LA Galaxy jersey and you know short sleeves isn’t quite Becks-like.
So will he stay at Milan or will be it back to LA? From the way things are going it seems Milan really want to keep him. And I’m enjoying abit of the Italian league with my boy-hood hero playing there and all…….but that is a story that stays in Italy.
I am still Manchester United born and Bred. Figuratively speaking of cos!
Danker out!
