I ended 2011 by hosting one of the biggest sporting events in Singapore, The Standard Chartered Marathon. And this year I had the opportunity of hosting OCBC Cycle Singapore after the organisers called me back, together with Ross, who was also one of the emcees for the event.
It was damn fun working with this guy because he kept up his fun approach to emceeing and he interacted with the crowd a lot which was good for me because I could concentrate on the safety messages as well as tackle the VIP names. This was one of the things Ross kept talking about “Ride Safe” “Have Fun” and I think there was another with the words “Pedal Hard”.
I hosted the Kids events on the 3rd as well as the 59km Super Challenge ride among others on 4th March. There were thousands of cyclists which really shows how much cycling has grown in Singapore over the past few years. This of course is the 4th year we have OCBC Cycle Singapore.
The riders were a fun bunch especially since i decided to leave the stage are and go track side so that I could speak to them. Kelly Letimer joined us later so she and Ross handled the fun bits on stage while I spent time interviewing the riders on the track.
Another highlight was the ever friendly volunteers who worked hard to help make this 3 day event possible! Even though they were really tired by the end of the event, they didn’t stop smiling. On Saturday night before I left I even heard that some of them wanted to come back again on Sunday because they enjoyed each others company.
It was tiring but I had fun and I’m grateful to be able to host it alongside the likes of Ross and Kelly, we’re all different in style but it was a nice mix of experience that I thought made us 3 gel very well. I’d also like to thank Kimberly, Candy and Jacqueline for their hard work being one of the organisers and planning the scripts and such.
Looking forward to the next sporting event! Don’t get me wrong I still love hosting corporate events but these sporting events are just as fun and energetic as well. It was worth waking up at 3am for.
