Earlier this year I took a trip to Hong Kong, believe it or not for the very first time in my life…LOL! Anyway the highlight of the trip for me was supposed to be my trip to Toy Hunters, which is basically the holy grail of Hot Toys since they all come from there.
Located at the CTMA centre in Mongkok, Toy Hunters was not quite what I expected. You see I had this thinking that since all Hot Toys come from here, that it would be a massive shop with lots and lots of Hot Toys movie replicas on display.
Well it’s not exactly a massive shop but it does have very nice displays on the outside of the shop. My only regret is I wished I had learnt some basic photography skills from my magazine – POPCulture Online’s photographer before the trip. Kinda disappointed with my shots but then again it was an old camera.
None the less it was still quite a nice experience being able to see the prototypes of the Ironman replicas are due out later this year. I was especially pleased to see the Mark V which rumour has it will be due out sometime in September. Back then it was still on pre-order.
And so was this, the Mark II unleashed. Lot’s of detail and parts on this one and it will probably hit Singapore in December or early January. I was actually there before it opened, had to wait like an hour or so before the shop opened so the photos don’t really justfy the displays. They look a lot better with the shelf lights lit up.
You know I thought that since HK kinda get’s their Hot Toys earlier that us in Singapore that Thor would be on sale then….but it turns out I was wrong. It was nice looking at the figure though….imagine if I had bought a Hot Toy replica from HK and brought it back to Singapore, that would have been fun.
There isn’t much to see on the inside of the store. Toy Hunters is a nice place to visit if you want to see the prototypes but most people go there, give their order and wait for the guys to take it from the back.
To really have a Hot Toys experience, nothing beats being at the Toy fair or convention to really see all the dioramas and displays that these guys are so good at doing. More of my HK trip in the coming posts.
