This is probably one of the most complex superhero novels I’ve read, which was always gonna make it more difficult to be translated to the big screen.
Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which superheroes are part of society, they intervene when called upon by the Government in somewhat an official manner.
The main plotline is centred on the tension between the United States and the Soviet Union. It begins with “The Comedian” being murdered, springing an investigation from Rorschach to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all superheroes.
What follows is a build up to a disbanded group of retired heroes to return to action and find an end to the conspiracy.
Visually powerful, intense and uncompromising, Watchmen is an epic comic-book film whose technical and thematic strengths overwhelm its narrative shortcomings.
Rotten Tomatoes
Personally I found the film draggy at times and there were too many unanswered gaps.
Danker out!
