The Punggol East International Friendship day 2011 was held on Apr 30 at Harmony Square, Rivervale Crescent. In continuing to foster good ties among the residents of Punggol East, the Rivervale CC Youth Executive Committee and The Punggol East RC Youth Chapters jointly organized this International Friendship Day celebration in conjunctionwith the Peoples’ Association Youth Movement’s 40th anniversary.

The guest of honour Mr Michael Palmer, Advisor to Pasir Ris Pungool GROs arrived in the GoGreen Segway PT to launch the new Punggol East website. This was the first of 2 significant events that happened during International Friendship Day.

With the launch of the new Punggol East website done, he then proceed to the campfire launch site at the end of a torch relay that was started by the Rivervale CC YEC Chaimman, Mr Christopher Ng. The RCYC reps were all decked out in their respective RC T-shirts to symbolize the unity of the Punggol East RCYCs which was significant also because it was International Friendship Day.

Eventually the flame reached Mr Palmer as he marked hte launch of the Punggol East Youth Chapters and the start of the Punggol East International Friendship Day.

Lots of performances continued through the night, entertaining the crowd with the main event being the fireworks display. Although there was a slight drizzle, the crowd stayed on to watch cultural acts from all over Singapore and a performance all the way from Thailand. All this while Mr Palmer walked around making conversation with the residents and squeezing out some time to run up on stage to give out tokens of appreciation.

It was indeed another successful event organized by Mr Michael Palmer and his team from Punggol East and I got to catch up with some friends from the YEC, like Samuel (pictured above) If you want to find out the latest news on courses and activities in Punggol East, all you have to do is log on to www.punggoleast.org.sg
