Bare Your Sole
Habitat for Humanity and Barclays, event owner and title sponsor respectively, announced today that Habitat-Barclays Bare Your Sole 2011 will take place on Saturday, 18 June at Gardens by the Bay East, Tanjong Rhu.
The venue will offer a picturesque setting for the walk which will take place over 2.5 and 4 kilometre distances. Building on the success of previous years’ events, the organisers hope to attract more than 5,000 pairs of bare feet for the 9.00am start. Elliott Danker will be hosting this year and would like you to be a part of it! He’ll be joined by his long time friend and ex-radio DJ Sebastian Sim as well as a whole host of other celebrities.
Participants in the barefoot walk will help raise funds for local and overseas beneficiaries. The event will also assist in raising awareness for Habitat for Humanity projects that build homes and fight poverty for the less fortunate.

As well as special projects here in Singapore, Habitat for Humanity Singapore volunteers have carried out work in places such as Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam amongst others.
Online registration for Habitat-Barclays Bare Your Sole 2011 can be found at www.bareyoursole.org.sg, alongside all other necessary information on Habitat for Humanity Singapore and the event itself on 18 June.
The event website also allows participants to raise their own additional funds through the GIVE.sg platform, while a number of charity auction items will go live on the site in coming weeks.

Minna Issho Fund Raising for Japan
Elliott was part of the fund raising efforts by Bellydance Discovery studios at an event called Minna Issho. He conducted a sharing session on Eco Fashion pretty much speaking about my Eco label, ED-08 and he also answered various questions about organic cotton and doing your part to save the Earth.
This was all part of a bigger cause and that was charity. You see a dance extravaganza covering numerous dance and interesting workshops was organized and took place at the Bellydance Discovery studios to raise funds for the recent disaster in Japan.

Minna Issho or Everybody Together was organized by a group of volunteers in association with Give.sg and Bellydance Discovery with the idea of bringing everyone together in dance and all things inspired by Japan and return that inspiration to those affected by the earthquakes and tsunami.
The Dance Buffet was a day dance extravaganza covering over 15 forms of dance and numerous interesting workshops, with lots of fun & a good workout. What participants were in for was within a day to try out as many classes as they want. Not only that, the participants are encouraged to dance and exercise.

It wasn’t all just dancing or learning different forms of dance as they got to meet people from different walks of life and discover new things and art forms. The duration for each class was about 45mins so it was a bit like a massive workshop with people walking in a out of dance studios at Bellydance Discovery within the full day.
I think the nicest part about the entire day was the amount of support people gave to the event. Although you can compare it to the more extravagant or celebrity filled charity events, I liked the community spirit that was shown at Bellydance Discovery.

Really these guys love dance and they were more than ready to share their inspiration for dance at this Dance Buffet. I’m already looking forward to the next one.
Elliott Danker
