These aren’t all the Hot Toys released in 2011 but they were the ones I purchased this year all thanks to the amount of pre-orders I made last year. I’m new to the hobby but to be it is a collection of art. The head sculpts are true works of art these days all thanks to the likeness they bear to the actors portraying the movie characters.
As time goes by and with some maintenance, these movie replicas increase in value and play a huge part in popular culture in the world. So I decided to take out my digi cam and snap some pictures of the Hot Toys that have left an impression on me this year.
Iron Man Mark IV
2011 would certainly be the year of Iron Men for Hot Toys. Some collectors say they are milking the franchise with the amount of releases and re-releases they keep having. But this model of the Iron Man suit featured in the movie Iron Man 2 was nice especially because the red tone was strong as compared to the darker version Mark III.
Iron Man Mark V
Without a doubt this model of the Iron Man suit from Iron Man 2 was my absolute favourite. It’s uniqueness bears resemblance to the Iron Man centurion armor used by Tony Stark in the comics. Yet it’s sleek design and suit case concept drew so much in terms of imagination.
Iron Man Mark VI
You can be sure this will likely get a re-release considering it will be featured in the upcoming Avengers movie and the replica was pretty decent too so if you haven’t got it yet then don’t hesitate when it gets released again.
Iron Man Mark IV: Secret Project
One of my personal favourites in my collection. I was hesitant on getting this at first because i already had a Mark IV but then there was something unique about it that i can’t quite put my finger down on and no I don’t mean the colour. None the less I love it and it’s got a special place on my display shelf.
Odin and Thor
You have to get these 2 in a set because it represents a father and his son. Both are Gods from Asgard and the resemblance especially of Sir Anthony Hopkins is a collector if not for the character he portrays then for the fact that it’s Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Spiderman and New Goblin
Another one that needs to be bought in a set of 2. The movie Spiderman 3 was not as well received among fans compared to the first 2 but with Hot Toys only having the license for characters from the third movie, the value is so much more because how much can you milk from one movie? Or have I spoke too soon? Watch out for the Black Spiderman with Sandman diorama to complete your Spiderman 3 collection.
Captain America
It’s War Torn, looks weathered and has a very shiny shield. This is one replica that I’ve been very satisfied of although I haven’t quite found the best and most impressive way to pose it but that’s the whole fun of such a hobby isn’t it.
Batman: Batsuit Begins
I queued 4 hours for this at the Singapore Toys Games and Comics Convention and I will never regret it. The likeness to Christian Bale is simply amazing and it actually made me rewatch Batman Begins just to relive that moment where Bruce Wayne slowly modifies his suit to the current batsuit. It stands tall next to my DX02 and if you consider how it made me want to watch the movie again…..that’s powerful stuff I tell you. Fans on Facebook groups for Hot Toys have voted for this as their favourite figure of the year.
Superman
Although the Batsuit Begins gets most fans vote for figure of the year, Superman gets mine. A replica of the 1978 Superman movie staring Christopher Reeve, the resemblance is beyond amazing. It’s so powerful it reminded me of the tagline from that movie “You would believe a man can fly.” I believed and it is the best pre-order I’ve made so far.
I apologize if the photos don’t really do justice to the figures because I’ve seen some pretty awesome blogs out there dedicated to figurine photography, Hot Toys movie replicas in particular. Hopefully this new year I can get a proper self made studio up and running and take some awesome shots just like those blogs I’ve visited.
