They were in town a few months ago as part of the AKB48 experience in Singapore and over the weekend they were back again for another concert at *SCAPE. I’m talking about SDN48, short for Saturday Night 48. The Japanese idol group was created based on a more adult idol concept hence they are very much different from sister groups such as AKB48.
Firstly the members are older, the youngest on the night being 21 and the resting being in their mid twenties or so I think. And the dance moves are well…..sexier. Caught your attention didn’t I.
I got the change to meet them up close as POPCulture Online was granted backstage access just an hour before the concert. for a quick interview with Syaka Kondo, Yukari Sato and Chen Qu. I didn’t know what to expect honestly because most of the time interviews are conducted in a nice room with the setting all prim and proper. This one however just made the session all the more interesting with 3 chairs set up and ready on stage, including lighting for effect. It was like we were part of the show.
I’m not gonna spoil the interview article too much for you but we did ask them about their personal hopes and dreams and one answer stood out for me. One of the three actually wants to be a radio DJ someday….duh of course I showed off to her that I was a jock for about 5 years in Singapore! Hey what can I say…..I earned the right to use that pick up line. LOL!
Anyway you can read all about POPCulture Online’s interview with SDN48 members Sayaka Kondo, Yukari Sato and Chen Qu here.
This scene was pretty funny because we had some time at the end and were just chatting while the crew was getting the stage ready for the concert. So Yukari asked me (since I was a radio DJ and all…haha) about her intro-line for the concert.
So she’s saying “The size of my head is the size of my heart”….and the Sayaka and Chen Qu then ask me “Don’t you think she’s got a big head”…….gosh what was I supposed to say man. I suggested “The glow on my forehead is the glow from my heart”…..but well I might have said it too fast to catch, full American radio DJ accent included…opps.
