2008 In Review

This is going to be my last post of 2008, a year which has been a bumpy ride. It’s been good, it’s been bad but you know what………….I wouldn’t have it any other way.

So much has been learnt, lost and found……literally my year has been this way but all in all I hope that you don’t look back at your year with regrets, life is not for regretting. We learn lessons and we become stronger.

I want to take you through my year, just some good parts, the ones I want to share with you and remember!

January: I have the power!

This was a very nice rolling start to the year. Getting an old show which I love, Masters of the universe. Sure…..it’s abit jialat la but hey childhood memories make up for it.

Actually come to think of it, this was how I started organising movie marathons.

Febuary: Working on Valentines day

Ah yes, Valentines day….I had a date btw….hahaha! However back then when I was still in 91.3, we had an event called the St. Valentines day masacre at BOne.

It was a great party honestly and Marco was a very nice host…..although I have heard that he has or is leaving…..well take care my friend!

March: The begining of a new interest

I love the Japanese culture and cosplay has always made me interested…….my friend Charlene in particular attenes cosplay events often and so I attened a pretty big scale one in March.

It was held at Vivo City, not the first one I attended but the first time my eyes got opened to this culture.

April: Iron Man premire

I love superhero movies and the first one to hit us this year was Iron Man, the best part was I was invited to the movie premire……how cool is that!

A nice reception, a great movie…..I’d have to pick this one as one of the best movie premires I’ve been to this year. I must also thank Janet for being my date.

May: Meeting Marie Digby and winning the Cup

This is the month where all the action began! First it began with meeting Marie Digby when she had a showcase here in Singapore at Velvet Undergound.

Manchester United won the premire league and then the Champions League! Oh this was the best of the best. I was literally knelling down praying during the penalty shoot out!

You think that’s tops……my friend Scarlett went to Moscow to catch the game, she got her tix 1 week before the match….My Gosh!

Your nuts babe but you rock!

June: Reservist and saying goodbye

It’s something we all go through and I served my fair share in June, made new friends and of course I’m already looking forward to my next one.

Most of all I’m glad I’m one step closer to finishing my 10 cycles.

Saying goodbye is never easy…………I left 91.3 in late June. I spent about 2 weeks with the new morning crew after coming back from reservist…….almost 2 years on the morning show was a great learning experience.

Some part of me does wonder what would have happened if I had stayed….the new morning crew was nice and I’ve known Suzanne since I joined the station but the decision was made and I left.

July: New beginings

After going on a 2 week break I could wait to get back on air and this time it was with Power 98! Just like signing for a new soccer club, I couldn’t wait to get into the starting line up.

And was reunited with my old partner Jensen Ho….every afternoon from 2 to 5pm! The afternoon madness needed to get you through your work day! Pretty much being thrown right into the mix on my first day but hey….I like it that way!

I’ve gone solo now cos Simone left and Jensen was transfered to the night show but we are expected to be reunited again soon so stay tuned for updates!

August: I am ElliottDanker.com

Exciting times made possible thanks to my friends Sebastian and Kenneth! The launch of my very own website!

You probably notice that banner from my old blog edanker.blogspot.com

Here’s Sebastian, the man resposible for managing this site, putting it together and making this such a success!

Kenneth I owe many thanks for all the content he has helped to provide, photos from outings and unique events, most of which have been documented on this site.

September: The first ever F1 night race, studio guests and woofball

I think many people will remember the month of September for the first ever Formula 1 night race. Loud engines filled the City Hall area.

I remember the first day when I came out of City Hall mrt and heard the engines………wow it was like music to my ears.

I owe alot to Chris from ThreeAngles Production who helped me get an invite to witness history in the making!

That month was all about cars, Me and Jensen had the Super Import nights babes come by the studio too!

As October moved along we had many studio guests, Boys like Girls being one of them, they of course had just wrapped up their tour with MetroStation and were in Singapore to perform at the Nike run.

As with my interest in cosplay and the Japanese culture increased, I helped Janet out with her ESP Clinic featuring Masahi Kimura. A guitar event done cosplay style proved an eye opener for many who attended the clinic.

The above picture shows Masashi Kimura, with the cosplayers and the Lolitas adding a nice touch to the event. It was mostly inspired by the fact that Masashi is Japanese hence the cosplay culture was added to it.

And it definately made Janet a trend setter as she took cosplay to a different level.

Woofball………….a game for kids and adults was at Suntec city for about 2 to 3 weeks in Sept and Jun Yuan and myself had not one but two shots at it.

The organisers of the event happened to be my old collegue Bob and his wife Suzy…….what a small world!

I didn’t do too well but Jun Yuan became a human hamster………..quite funny man, esp with everyone else just standing around watch the ‘big babbies’ play Woofball.

Sometime mid Sept, my good friend Sebastian left Singapore after his break to start his life and career in London. Everything settled in well for him and we hope to see you back soon!

October: The MacBook, The Shield, joint Birthdays, Lifehouse and Halloween

It finally arrived………after thinking about it for the longest time, I got the new MacBook. Months of saving too brought me to that moment when I changed from PC to Mac.

It’s been great so far, no complaints over it. My friend DJan from DJs Unity helped me get things set up to and I’m pleased to say that I’ve gotten pretty ok with the Mac so far.

Had to change the layout on my desk though but that was a pleasent problem to have. Speaking of which, I chanced upon a replica Captain America shield when I was walking around at Plaza Singapura.

Some renovation to the 7th floor was completed and they opened a Simply Toys store……………I walked in and saw the last Shield on sale…..woo hoo! The shield returns later for its very special purpose.

I’m a smallville fan and a Lifehouse fan and boy was I excited when they came to the Power 98 studios. The funny thing was that it was a public holiday and Lifehouse popped by for an interview.

Hahaha…that pretty much made it the most exciting public holiday ever man!

Oh ya, my Birthday is in Oct so I had a joint birthday gathering filled with sweet treats from Billy Bombers. You see, Leanna’s birthday is just 2 days before mine so she had to help me down a very very sweet mixture that Billy Bombers gave for my Birthday!

I also wanna say thank you for a very special gift from a very special someone on my Birthday. You know I’ve just converted to being an Apple user and you helped expand my collection………….THANK YOU!

Ok time to bring back the Shield! Woo Hoo I celebrated Halloween with the Wongs. There was a pirate, a doll, a mad scientist and a superhero but I was defeated by the mad scientist!

November: Meeting May’n and starting the FLOUNGE

AFA08 was the buzz all Nov because May’n performed here. She is the singing voice of Sheryl Nome from the anime Macross Frontier and I must She sounds great live and the VIP Diamond pass Kenneth and I got was worth it

Kudos to the organisers for their effort in bringing the Japanese culture into Singapore at Suntec City for 2 days!

There was some disappointment however with fans not being allowed to take photos with her or to get her to sign their CDs. She did however give them an autographed board which is the way things are done in Japan………..so all is good now.

Are you ready for FLounge!

Bet you didn’t count on Fendy and Me starting up this group………..catch our ‘unique’ parody songs on Facebook….you should know if you are a friend on my facebook, if not….JOIN THE GROUP!

December: Of memories, coffee and my LCD screen

Getting crafty and storing May’n’s autograph was the best way to start Dec, I mean it’s a really nice board but it needed a frame and some other add ons for it!

So after a few hours, me and Kenneth came up with this frame and postcard to add into it. It now sits nicely on my shelf in my room……….what a great memory of AFA08.

Every now and then, you get to host a show that just gives you warm and fuzzy feelings. The Starbucks open house was one such event where I met my old friend Eunice.

I think the best part of it was the familiarity and the chance to catch up with her! Further more it was for a good cause and it was close to Christmas!

And of course to draw 2008 to a close……….I’ve completed my room renovation with the biggest project being the 24″ Acer LCD monitor which is hooked up to my MacBook!

Was it a good year? Even with it’s ups and downs, I would say it’s been a great year! Much has been learnt and experienced!

All the best for 2009!

Danker in 08…..out!

A Pat On The Back

I always like to mark the close of a year and Christmas with a gift to myself, sort of my own self indulge thingy to represent a pat on the back.

Yeah I know, sounds a little self centred to give myself a pat on the back but why not…….kind of take things in a positive light right. Anyway thanks to a few suggestions this years ‘pat on the back’ is a big one and a completed project too!

First things first, I mentioned before that I’ve been doing a mini renovation to my little penthouse…..hahaha! Ikea is like my best friend now, over the past few months I’ve bought just simple furniture to organise things in my room and now its done.

As you can see, I’ve included a new red metal shelf, the colour of course helps to add ‘life’ to the area and it also lets me place my May’n autograph board and CD, plus I can move all my Gundams to the grey shelf which is the new Gundam common area.

You’re probably wondering why I needed to move my Gundams………well here it is, my I present the ‘pat on the back’ of the year…..Cerebro!

Just a name my brother gave the place, an Acer 24″ LCD completes my work area with the new MacBook which I bought 2 months ago! Cerebro is the super computer that Professor X used in X-Men!

My Dad helped alot with the new paint job too and in line with the new theme, I placed my Captain America shield just above the LCD screen cos it looks great against the new blue-painted wall. Now it really looks like a Heroes corner.

Here’s a close up of the desk area…..man I’m so proud of this. Although it’s taken many months to complete and lots of help from friends, it’s finally done. Credit to Kenneth for the initial idea and thanks to my Dad for the support……..and of course letting me use abit more electricity because of this.

Danker out!

Christmas at St. 51

As always during Christmas time, I have a gathering with my very close friends and new ones I’ve made during the year. This year however it was different as I only spent it with close friends.

Christmas was well Christmas, lots of good food thanks to my dad’s cooking and gift exchanges, which is always fun.

There was also Janet’s birthday…..hahaha so we did a little surprise for her in the midst of the Uno game she made us play.

Lot’s of us tried to escape the Uno game, I tried running to my xbox but well…………..was captured! Lol……I’m sure in this picture her wish was “please make them play Uno with me”

Here’s the run down of the Birthday girl and her guests / Uno gang!

There’s Kenneth’s sister Kathleen

Her boyfriend Jun Yuan aka Metro-man aka my childhood friend since primary 1

My God-Sis Leanna

Kenneth…..although I’m not sure why Janet has a knife to his head, could be he also tried to run away from playing Uno.

Tissa however was a little stressed out by the game.

But not as stressed as Eugene who had various penalties given against him.

As for Ming…………..well Ming was just being Ming…hahaha! Compliments of the season everyone!

Danker out!

Santa and Bleebo Save Christmas

Now kids,…..adults too, this is what you should not be doing during Christmas!

This one was found at FunnyorDie.com as Jessica Biel goes around town as Santa’s little helper to help solve a small money problem during this time of economic woe.

Like I said, don’t do this but hey watching Jessica Biel run around dressed as an elf is always worth it! Hahahaha!

Merry Christmas from ElliottDanker.com

Bedtime Stories

This adventure comedy starring Adam Sandler as Skeeter Bronson, a hotel handyman whose life is changed forever when the bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to mysteriously come true.

Like all curious humans, he attempts to take advantage of the phenomenon, incorporating his own aspirations into one outlandish tale after another, but its the kids unexpected contributions that turn Skeeters life upside down.

Though it may earns some chuckles from pre-teens, this kid-friendly Adam Sandler comedy is uneven, poorly paced, and lacks the requisite whimsy to truly work.

Rotten Tomatoes

It’s a feel good family movie or even makes a great date movie…..trust me, I tried it, hahaha!

Twilight

A modern day love story between a vampire and a human would be the best way to describe this film. When Bella Swan’s (Kristen Stewart) mother remarries and sends her to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn’t expect much of anything to change.

Then she meets the mysterious and dazzling Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). Soon, Bella and Edward are swept up in a passionate and decided romance. Edward can run faster than a mountain lion, he can stop a moving car with his bare hands and he hasn’t aged since 1918.

To Edward, Bella is that thing he has waited 90 years for a soul mate. However the Cullens’ mortal vampire enemies, come to town, looking for her? Based on the Stephenie Meyer book.

Having lost much of its bite transitioning to the big screen, Twilight will please its devoted fans, but do little for the uninitiated.

Yes Man

Jim Carrey stars as Carl Allen, a guy whose life is going nowhere. He always says ”no”until he signs up for a self-help program based on one simple covenant: say yes to everything…and anything.

Unleashing the power of “YES” begins to transform Carl’s life in amazing and unexpected ways, getting him promoted at work and opening the door to a new romance.

Jim Carrey’s comic convulsions are the only bright spots in this otherwise dim and predictable comedy.

Rotten Tomatoes

This movie is worth the watch not just for its meaningfull and touching storyline but also for it’s comedic moments, somethign Jim Carey rarely disappoints with.

A Season Of Change

We have heard this so many times, with the festive season it’s time for change, time to forgive, time to be a better person.

I have changed, many prople around me have changed, many things have changed.

As we transit through change, we had an office xmas party last week and some gift exchanges have been happening over the week. I recieved a very cute gift from my colleague.

So cute right, and I really like the heart with the word ‘Love’ on it……it’s a nice meaningful gift! I added my santa hat on it to make it look cuter.

A Man Utd calender from my sister, a table lamp from Harry, among some of the gifts…….so I rearranged my work table.

Still on the topic of change, there’s another DJ making change………….in hair colour!

Economy down so gotta D.I.Y. to save cost………hahaha!

Danker out!

….. ……

This is not meant to be a blog post……..it’s not even a random thought.

I’m just sitting down looking at everything that’s happened this year, to me, to my friends, to people I don’t even know…..

Looking at some random msn nicks that caught my attention “really misses literature”, ”gonna be broke this xmas season”,  ”I’ll die when I die but not before. Until then, there’s always hope”

Seems that even though the festive season is here, theres some form of longing or sadness………weird enough it makes me think of a scene from Superman Returns….

Almost as if it was fated, this song started to play on-air….

15 days till a new year begins…….9 days till Christmas…..and so many are sad…..I am sad……

but theres always hope…..

GN-003 Complete

It’s done at last, GN-003 Gundam Kyrios has been completed! Phew, I’ve been putting this back for awhile and since i had some time today I decided to destress by fixing this up

Feels great to see this done, pretty much means I’ve finished the Gundams I want to for the Gundam 00 series.

No, I’m not gonna start on the Gundams for season 2 of 00…..I have no more space! Hahaha!

I’ve placed them next to my blue lava lamp, kinda looks like the particles from the GN drive.

That’s it, Gundams for this year are done and my mini renovation of my room is also complete…..but that’s another blog post for another day!

Danker out!
