May’N live at AFA08 (official pics)

I realised that I haven’t quite gotten over talking about AFA08, guess many people won’t be until the next major Jap event in Singapore.

Anywayz I receieved an email with the official photos taken during May’N’s concert in Singapore at AFA08 last weekend and I thought that I’d share them with you.

We’ve already talked about this, that it was a great concert. Here are some of the pictures taken from views that we could only dream of.

AFA08 Day 2

Day 2 of AFA08, the day May’n performs live in Singapore for the first time. And true to the theme, lots of people came down for cosplay mania dressed up as Macross Frontier characters.

Here are some pictures of some of the people who turned up for cosplay mania.

Yup we all know these characters from our favorite animes, Macross Frontier and Advent Children.

From the the number of Macross Frontier cosplayers, it practically made the event into an unofficial Macross Frontier event plus May’N was gonna perform that day.

Kudos to all the cosplayers, especially these two below who were Sheryl and Ranka. Full props to the effort they put in and somemore there were in the VIP diamond area cheering May’N on.

715pm to be exact was the concert time. Unfortunately no picture taking was allowed during the live performance but I assure you, it was fantastic.

May’N really brought the house down with her energy filled performance!

And there you have it, my souvenirs from AFA08, there’s my diamond VIP pass, an autograph from May’N and although my CD was not signed, it was this concert that allowed me to get this CD.

Ok before I go, gotta take a picture with Exia at the door!

AFA08 Day 1

An entire culture on display, a lifestyle that has influenced so many people around the world and Singapore had the honour of hosting the Anime Festival Asia 08 at Suntec City during the weekend.

Armed with a Diamond VIP pass, I managed to head down to catch the action and was greeted with a massive display of Exia from Gundam 00 at the entrance.

While everyone was walking around looking at the various displays and collectors’ toys on sale. There were various stage performances. This one in particular was the Tamagotchi characters which were damn cute la.

Here’s another unique event that was happening. An arcade showdown at the far end of the convention hall. Full on arcade machines with fierce competitors battling it out for top spot!

The collectors’ toys that were on display were my favourite part……apart from May’N’s performance….hehehe! There were exclusive toys from Bandai, Kotobukiya and Medicom Toy and more!

Not to mention western comic book character toys were also on display from the likes of Batman, Ironman and the Hulk.

Of course the Japanese toys added on to provide a wide variety of toys on display.

The highlight of the first day of AFA08 was the live performance by Ichirou Mizuki who is the King of Japanese anime songs having performed over 1200 anime songs.

I didn’t buy tickets for his performance cos I was on a budget spending the money on May’N live instead. None the less his music was more than impressive whihc any anime fan would appreciate.

Last but not least for the first day, I’m happy to say that I managed to get the stands I need for for my Gundam 00 collection!

Oh and here’s a special mention, Janet joined me, Kenneth and Shaun on the first day and she decided to well…..”cosplay”….ahem, no comments! Hahahaha!

Meeting Sheryl Nome: Good Show, Sad Fans

Finally after waiting for so long, a chance to watch May’n who was the singing voice of Sheryl Nome in Macross Frontier, perform live and then an autograph session as well as meet and greet session.

Photo taken from her official blog.

Her legions of fans from Singapore had crashed the official website server weeks ago, waiting to buy her concert tickets online. I was one of the lucky few to get the Diamond VIP pass for $118. Sounds like alot right? But up to that point everything seemed worth it, after all I’m a big fan of the series and there was a chance to meet one of the cast.

And so come 23 Nov 08, after all the opening acts which started as early as 6pm, come 715pm finally Sheryl Nome starring May’N came out to meet her fans and sang “Welcome to my fan club’s night”. Oh and the crowd goes wild!

What bout my star, Infinity, Diamond Crevese, Yousei, Northern Cross and Don’t be late were the other songs performed to an anticipating crowd waving her CD singles while dancing to the music. Mind you, those CDs must be imported from Japan as they are not avaliable in Singapore.

Concert ends, and after talking about this event on this blog, talking about it on air like the fan that I am….a line forms as the Diamond VIP holders get ready to meet their star. The CDs come out, the posters come out and………….we get a pre-signed cardboard and to shake her hand. Not even a pre-signed postcard at the very least, something with her photo on it.

No personal photos were allowed, I even asked the organisers and got a straight NO. No points for being a big fan, no points for being a paying fan. You take the cardboard, shake her hand and get off the stage.

http://ejump.wordpress.com/2008/11/23/afa08-day2-mayns-organizers-upsets-the-fan/

The above link features a May’n fan who came all the way from Kuala Lumpur and got a scolding from the organizers for asking May’n or as he describes, begging her to draw a heart on his imported Lion CD single.

Don’t get me wrong, May’N did everything right and for the record I have a really good impression of her, she was very nice, smiled and the best part about her was how she performed on stage as if she was in Japan, full of confidence which I admire in a singer.

So now we come to the question that’s on all our minds, whose fault is it? Not the Japanese side, those cardboards are definately worth abit cos May’N signed them and in Japan that is the culture. So what about all the possible add ons like autographs on CDs? For me, I’m most upset about not being able to get a photo with her.

Sure, there may be an arguement that May’N’s representatives made the stipulations but hey aren’t they in our country, you mean we got pushed over……or is it the organisers got pushed over, the organisers who are from Singapore. In any case, Thank You, seriously………Thank You!

And to end off I’d like to add that the organisers for next year’s event should really get a better emcee, the male host talked to the crowd at one point with his back facing us, no eye contact or effort of eye contact. Walking around the stage reading off a piece of paper showed lack of charisma and stage manners! Not so good representation of our country.

Danker out!

*Latest at 145pm, I received a call from the Director of AFA08, Mr Shawn Chin and I first wanna say I’m very gratefull for the call. Thanks for answering our concerns.

The Singapore representatives for AFA08 say they tried everything possible for CD autographs and Personal photos with May’N. They even proposed polaroid or official photos to be printed but the May’N’s management wanted to maintain that May’N have a rare image in terms of personal photographs as part of their marketing campain for her.

That’s why they didn’t allow personal photographs. As for the cardboard autographs, as mentioned earlier those are valuable because in Japan it’s the culture. So take heart if you feel that you have been short changed. May’N’s Singapore representatives what you to know that she gave those personal autographs with every intention to give you the same value as you would get in Japan.

To end off, I’d like to say that AFA08 was indeed a success but there are misunderstandings due to cultural differences. I guess it’s a lesson for anime fans here and over there to learn, as well as a lesson for Singaporeans and Japanese to learn for a bigger and better AFA09.”

City Of Ember

Ok first things first, here’s how the plot looks like! For generations, the people of the City of Ember have flourished in an amazing world of glittering lights. But Ember’s once powerful generator is failing.

The lamps that illuminate the city are starting to flicker. Now, two teenagers in a race against time, must search Ember for clues that will unlock the ancient mystery of the city’s existence, and help the citizens escape before the lights go out forever.

Simple plot with great visual effects which for me are the highlight of this film, definately worth the watch if you have some time on your hands.

City of Ember is visually arresting, and boasts a superb cast, but is sadly lacking in both action and adventure.

City Of Ember is written by Caroline Thompson the same person who did Edward Scissorhands and is based on the best-selling novel by Jeanne Duprau. It stars Bill Murray and Tim Robbins.

Body Of Lies

I love spy movies and in Body of lies we have Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio) as a U.S. Intelligence agent who goes to places where human life is worth no more than the information it can get you.

In these operations, Ferris’s has to depend on the voice at the other end of a secure phone line CIA veteran Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe).

In this movie, Hoffman is on the trail of an emerging terrorist leader who has orchestrated a campaign of bombings while eluding the most sophisticated intelligence network in the world. To lure the terrorist out into the open, Ferris will have to penetrate his underworld, but the closer he gets to the target, the more he discovers that trust is both dangerous and the only one that will get him out alive.

So that’s the plot round up, the movie itself is great, very good pace and the sort of mind games you expect in a spy movie. Definately worth the watch and if you don’t have time, make the time!

Body of Lies relies on the performances of Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio to elevate it beyond the conventional espionage thriller.

Bye Bye Bye

This post and photo is done purely out of randomness….hahaha!

Yes, he is leaving office in Jan 09 and it seems that everyone is celebrating…..even the shop Strip. Was passing by this shop at Suntec last night and I couldn’t resist taking a picture!

And in other random news, US President-Elect thinks he’s the last son of Kryton. Did you know that he took a photo with a Superman statue in Metropois Illinois and posted it on his senate website. Guess he must be a big comic book fan. Check out the video below.

Get ready for the F.Lounge

That’s right people, we are hard at work at our all new podcast called The F.Lounge. Be warned, it’s not for the faint hearted.

It features strong language, mature content and definately not for the elderly! Check out the production process….

The master mixer, Fendy….trying to get the sound jsut right, balence the echos and treble.

Of course when Fendy gets something right he has to celebrate and in true F.Lounge style, he does the F dance!

Little Simone popped by and we introduced her to the brand new podcast….I think it’s gonna be a hit!

Last but not least, you got to have your album cover. Classic picture taken man, all natural and captured in the moment!

To join the F.Lounge group on Facebook, please click here. Looking forward to seeing you be part of the F.Lounge.

Danker and Fendy out!

“Lieutenant Commander Elliott Danker, US Navy JAG”

There’s a saying that television can influence what you do with your life, in my case that was nearly very true. Back in school I used to watch a tv show called JAG, which stands for Judge Advocate General in the US Navy.

The show is basically is about the US Navy’s legal arm, the lawyers who investigate various cases within the US Navy and enforce Military Law. Although it sounds silly, this show played a big part in the reason why I studied Law.

I was even close to signing with the real thing….yes I nearly joined JAG. Spent lots of time researching and finding out if I, a Singaporean could join the US JAG. I was so influenced and driven by passion for Law, the passion to be in court, to outwit and out-think the defense or even prosecution. I was never the best in terms of grades but when it came to mock trails in school, I was driven by the thrill and desire to win.

I loved every moment of it, even serving my NS I did Military Law. But then for personal reasons I didn’t sign with JAG or even locally….I gave it up and moved on. Today I am a radio DJ, still driven by passion and desire.

I recently bought JAG, the tv series on dvd and somehow that same influence which came over me years ago is back. It just happens each time I watch it. Like I said, I know it’s silly but haven’t we all been influenced one way on another by TV……….it is a powerfull tool, isn’t it.

From the very beginning, season 1 of JAG sees the introduction of David James Elliott as LT Harmon “Harm” Rabb and Tracy Needham as J.G. Meg Austin. I’m halfway through this season now and you can see the original “skeleton crew” and how they started of the series with just 2 main actors.

Things change in season 2, Lieutenant Harmon “Harm” Rabb (David James Elliott) is promoted to Lieutenant Commander and is partnered with an attractive marine attorney, Major Sarah “Mac” MacKenzie (Catherine Bell). New cast members in the form of law student Ensign Bud Roberts (Patrick Labyorteaux) and tough but fair Admiral Chegwidden (John M. Jackson).

All in all there are 10 seasons, I expect to complete them…….eventually…..hahahaha! In the meantime check out the opening sequence to the series from season 2.

Don’t know about you but this is one of my favourite tv shows from the 90s.

Danker out!
